Congratulations Your total weight loss is awesome. It might be time for you

Jill <jsplds@...
Hi Amy,
That's kind of the way I've chosen to look at it. I don't know if it
works or not, but that's okay for me for now.
By the way, I went to the dr. today, and asked about why I'm losing
so slowly. He told me that I am actually right on target with the
rate that most people lose their weight.
By my personal records, since the day of surgery (when I weighed here
at home before heading to the hospital), I have lost as of today,
18.8 lbs. I'm 7 weeks post-op today. However, by the dr.'s records, I
have lost 28.8 lbs. since my final pre-op appt. a few days before my
surgery. That means I have lost just over 28% of my excess weight
already! And my overall weight drop since my highest weight is now 54
lbs.!
Seeing my weight loss as a percentage helps me to be much better
satisfied with my results to date. I guess it puts it into better
perspective for me. And just knowing that I am right where most
people are at this point post-op helps me to know that even though I
haven't lost the bazillion pounds in a month that I dreamed of, I'm
still doing just fine.
Today, I had to do another closet purge. I have so few things left in
my closet now. I'll be doing laundry every other day!
I tried on a jumper today that didn't fit 2 weeks ago, and I had
given myself 2 weeks before I figured it *might* fit me . . . um, I
can't even wear it now because it's TOO BIG!!! Now that's something I
never imagined being able to say!!!!!
Today has been a *very* good day! :D

2007-02-27 12:42:10

Lizanne,
My surgeon doesn't run any labs for us until 6 months post-op either. I
wish it was more frequently than that, but I guess I'm just going to
have to live with his rules.
With all your hair loss, and your acknowledgement of not having
ingested enough protein for so long, it would seem that common sense
might prevail and that tests could be run earlier than his "norm" just
to see if you are in need of anything now. It would seem to me that
it's easier to catch up early in the game than it would be if you let
even more time pass before testing.

Sorry, I accidentally hit delete instead of reply to your email! I am booking
tix for Aug. 27-Sept 2. It works with my childrens school AND a long weekend
from my work so I can use less vacation time. It is also great as far as crowds
go and the deeper discounts. I hope to hear from the travel agent tomorrow or
Wed. to get everything pinned down. The bad part is that it is hurricane season
and also the hottest part of the year there. That is ok though, there are so
many people where I work that LIVE to go to Disney World that they are all
giving me great pointers to stay fairly cool and experience everything. :) I
am really excited. Perhaps as much as my children.

unfortunatley the bat wings and the boobs are your special reminder of the
weight. You can self pay to correct both. The nice thin about breast implants
is there is no stretching of the skin so it should not feel like someone
stepping on your chest. I have heard that the wings are the most painful of all
the surgeries. I will live with both i think. I dream of a new chest, but the
reality is that I support my kids alone, so I will just keep rolling them up and
sticking them into my bra's that are iffy on fit as well.

Allison <allisonmarie22@...
I'm 28 and I think my loss has been fairly slow...certainly not as
dramatic as some. I consider myself fairly young, but I have to say that my skin
is horrible. I have huge batwings, my boobies are halfway to my bellybutton and
the skin on my stomach and legs is sagging pretty badly. However, I haven't
really done a lot of exercise since surgery, so I'm sure I have myself to blame.

kids & living alone LONG

2007-02-25 03:08:07

My youngest son, 19, is the one going to make me a grandma in April. My 2 older
ones, nada! the oldest son, 25, has no woman on the horizon and has informed me
that he doesn't think he will be having kids, and if he does it will be after
he's 30 because he's 25 and no plans right now about any committment. My
daughter, 23, is married but they've "planned" when they will be having kids and
if they keep on schedule, there won't be a baby from them for another 2-5 years!
I have mentioned I want grandbaby from them, but it's not a deal buster for me.
I raised 3 kids alone and I know how very hard it is to get the job done right,
so if I just end up with the 1 grandbaby coming now, that's okay for me. :)
also on the topic of being alone (which I haven't chimed in to) in 2006, I was
"alone" with my mom. daughter got married, oldest son was in Florida, young son
was away at treatment. I spent the entire year of 2006 to myself with my mom,
then she left for the last 4 months of 2006 and this WAS THE FIRST TIME IN MY
ENTIRE LIFE SINCE BIRTH that I have been all alone. so alone, I adopted a dog.
but I loved it. OMG I came home to total peace and quiet and nothing to do, I
enjoyed my solitude. 1 specific night I lay on the couch and I suddenly felt
guilty, like wasn't I supposed to be doing something, then I realized I deserved
to just lay on couch relaxing after 25 years of raising kids. BUT here's the
clincher, in Jan 2007 baby son came home, in March 2007 he moves in girlfriend,
in June 2007 oldest son comes back home, in August 2007 sons girlfriend is
pregnant. and of course my mom is here AND to top it all off, my daughter and
her husband are having
issues so she just moved in here last week!!!!! so now I've gone from 1, little
ole me going through empty nest syndrome to a house of 6!!! what the heck?? with
the 2 oldest kids bunking in the living room on couch and floor :) you really
just never know. full house but still no more for me to do, I refuse to change
my new solitude, they are adults and they can do for themselves. last year I
went on 4 different trips for the first time in my life, i packed and took off
:) yes it's nice to have kids and to have them around but after you've done all
you can solitude is grand also :)

Kay,
The amount of protein and carbs sounds good to me, but I have one
comment. You need more than plant protein. You need some animal
protein too, like eggs or meat or cheese. Are you getting some from
these foods also?
Lizanne

Re: carbs

2007-02-22 02:12:50

Jenn,
I will tell you what I do, but I think I over do it. I allow myself
20 gr perserving, no more. Then I allow myself 60 a day. I know
that is more than most, but other than the sugar I put in my decaf
tea, all other carbs are complex.
I think my NUT said no more than 7 gr per serving. Oooops.

Amy,
I was hoping that was true, but I don't think so. I had my surgery 5
months ago and have lost only 67 lbs. That is slow for WLS. I am
also older, 54 on Thursday. My skin is very saggy, especially in the
arm area. There is some in other places, but the arms are the
worst. I exercise, water aerobics twice a week since Oct 2, and I am
now walking the treadmill 3 times a weeks, but only for 35-45 minutes
so far. Maybe it has to do with age rather than slowness. My
brother had the surgery over 5 years ago, and had a tummy & a butt
lift. The rest of him looks very good, and he was 40 years old when
he had it. He was over 400 lbs though. He lost 235 lbs in 10
months. So it really depends on your skin and heredity.

Re: List of our needed vitamins/supplements

2007-02-21 18:27:29

Dee,
The list my NUT and surgeon prescribed included:
500 mcg Vit B12 Sublingual
1200 mg Calcium Citrate + D
Multi vitamin...or 2 childrens multivitamin.
Oh, iron if your still get your periods, I don't.
I am somewhat of a believer in vitamins so I take an extra vitamin D,
which helps defend against breast cancer and also helps with the
absorption of calcium. I do not take it with the calcium, but with a
yogurt or a serving of cheese.
I also take a niacin which can be used instead of cholesterol meds.
It helps carry away the bad cholesterol, but can cause your face and
upper body to flush for about 10 minutes. Feels really weird.
And last of all, I take a vitamin C. This helps keeps colds away and
is an antioxident, it may take away those free radicals so I age
slower.
That's what I do, but the first 3 or 4 the docs required.

Depression?

2007-02-18 00:58:16

Jess,
As you will learn or have already learned, there is nothing edged in
stone when it comes to this surgery. Everyone is different. The
depression may come because your hormones are stored in your fat. As
the fat quickly disolves after surgery, all these hormones are
released into your bloodstream. This can cause your period to start,
even if you just finished it, or it can cause a giant PMS. This can
be delayed. There must be something else, because I had depression
after surgery and I will be 54 this week. No period for me. Again,
not everyone gets depressed and it can go away in a couple months OR
you can end up taking meds for it for a while OR it may not happen at
all. Just be prepared.

different drink

2007-02-17 02:01:30

Hi all,
Is anybody on this site familiar with the revival soy protein drink.
I used to drink these when I was dieting and then stopped, but I still
have several. I had my surgery two weeks ago today and I am drinking
one a day. I do not like them with water at all, but they are good
with juice or milk. a package of them provides 0 sugar, 4g carbs, 20g
of protein. It is a good way to get the protein and satifys too. I
just wondered if anybody knew about them. I think you have to send for
them like I did. I have now lost 19 lbs and am very happy. I finally
walked around Walmart today. these drinks come in flavors of all kinds
too. Kay

If you are losing slower, then doesn't that mean that your skin does better and
you don't have the SAGGING that comes with rapid weight loss? Only asking. I
have never really lost a lot of weight before so I do not know.

massage

2007-02-14 19:36:49

Edie,
yeah, me too. Actually I would employ a full time massuese (sp?).
then I could get it all taken care of in a few weeks. Ah, wouldn't
that be nice? But just think of all the excess skin. I wouldn't
look thin at all, just flabby. So then I would have to get seaweed
or mineral wraps to take care of the skin....or plastic surgery.
UGH!! another surgery. that scares me. Maybe I should just check
into one of those fat farms in AZ and have them direct my daily
activities until I am fit and healthy. That's what I always thought
I would do if I won the lottery....head to a fat farm and make them
whip me into shape. Never thought about the excess skin, but with
the winnings I could take care of that too. Now I just have to
remember to buy a lottery ticket now and then.

I know what you mean about drinking during eating. They tell us not to
because it flushes the food out faster and we want to eat again sooner. I
have had a couple of sips before eating and if needed a sip during.. I try
not to afterwards but it depends on what I am eating. A sip now and then
isn't going to hurt anything in my opinion.

San's thoughts on Monday - Sharon, Sara, Naomi

2007-02-14 00:58:10

Good Morning everyone, in the interest of cutting down on messages, I am going
to try and make my own daily digest of posts and replies to others...twice each
day I'll do it. Delete away if you desire or read on and enjoy!!
Sharon & Sara: I would most certainly drive 5 hrs for BBQ chicken and I am
going to see if I am free for this festival this year. I SO enjoyed driving to
Lookout Mountain the two times I've been and I'd LOVE to actually enjoy the
mountain again! Before, I got all claustrophobic in Rock City and all those
tight spaces and I wanted to climb Stone Mountain in Atlanta too...I'm going to
see if I can go back later this year when I'll be a lot smaller and can enjoy
the trails and sights!
Naomi: the pizza sounds nice but my body does not like processed foods too
much, even before surgery my tummy was really fickle. BUT, I am reminded that
Pizza Hut sells personal pan pizzas so I may try these one day---BBQ chicken
supreme of course :) !!! Oh, and a coworker told me of a hamburger pizza (or
something like that) where you take a hamburger bun, add sauce, sprinkle cheese
and your favorite toppings and top it with mozzarella or whatever and bake it
for 10 mins...it sounds like it could be yummy but it seems like something might
be missing!!
Oh well, I am off to do something productive. I am off work today for the MLK
holiday. I have no real plans although my phone, internet service and cable
might be interrupted---I couldn't pay the bill on time...YIKES :( that's okay
though because I need to work on my book and do a little house cleaning now that
my niece is gone and I get paid on Friday and can then restore service. Gotta
go.
HAPPY MONDAY!!

List of our needed vitamins/supplements

2007-02-13 13:53:53

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of our needed vitamins & supplements??
And the required doses??
I just realized that after 2.5 years.....I just buy my supplements on "auto
pilot".
I don't know where I got my list ....or if I'm even taking everything that I
should be taking.
Have I unintentionally dropped something from my regime?? Missed something
entirely??
You know....when you've been doing something for so long that you don't even
think about it any more.
I'd love a list of what we should be taking....and why.
Many thanks!!!

Thankfully the headaches are gone now. I am fortunate to have never had high
blood pressure. I was concerned at first that it could be low blood sugar since
my fasting sugars are in the 80's but I checked and that was okay too. I think

Re: migraines

2007-02-09 10:56:21

ME ME ME right now I take Maxalt, its a under the tongue melting
pill. a godsend. but it is prescribed and unless you have insurance
it's expensive, even with insurance it's a name brand so its at my
highest copay.
I've taken Imitrex injections and pills, and also Fiorinal, for the
light ones Excedrin Migraine was great. I've gone through periods of
time when I don't get any (like now) and I've gone through horrendous
times that I just want to die. I've had them since a teen 30 years
ago!.
I know some people take Vicodin. They also have some natural stuff,
it's called Feverfew. I haven't tried it but I know people who have
success with it.
I hope you find something you can take and let me know cause when I
have surgery I'll be unable to take stuff also. I am so sorry you
have migraines, I can cry for you. no one knows how that feels unless
they have them or know somebody with them. don't you feel like you
want to drill your head. the bad ones bring me to psychosis, I mean
I literally will lie in bed after throwing up and going blind, and
just want to slam my head in wall. I will do some research for you
and try to help you find some help. Judy

Does anybody here have to deal with migraines? If so, what do you take for them?
I have dealt with them for over 20 years. They stem from a neck injury from
rolling a truck. I finally hit on the one thing that seems to help me...Excedrin
Migraine along with chiropractic treatments. However, since the surgery I am no
longer allowed to take it. My surgeon prescribed Imitrex for me, but it doesn't
help at all. On top of that, I no longer have insurance since I quit my job so I
can't afford the chiropracter treatments.

14 NEW Digests?!?

2007-02-08 03:00:22

I want to say that I have been resisting all urges to reply to
messages written in comment to stuff that I ahve posted unless there
are specific questions to me or a subject is so important that I feel
I have to reply. So I don't want you all to think I am being rude, I
just can not add to the insanity by posting to every little thing
like I did in the past. I'm afraid with all these posts that the
important stuff may get tidal-waved away with all the little teeny
posts that are just in reply to some comment (If that makes any sense
at all.)
See, 14 new digests means 14 TIMES 25 messages and I don't know HOW I
can catch up, I don't even know how many messages that is. And there
is stuff mixed in there that I can't wait to find but it will be like
finding a needle in a haystack.
So if anyone is having hard times I just want to say here and now, I
agree with everyone else who has wished you well and that I agree
whole heartedly but that I may not POST that because there are so
many others ahead of me who have already commented. Please don't
think of me as rude, I am just trying to help the flood with a little
bit of chewing gum so to speak.

these are for Fashion Bug and are online discounts only. I really
like the way that their clothes have been fitting as I lose the
weight, AND they are pretty well priced. make sure you check the
sale and closeout sections for the best deals.
Nice thing is that they will last a while so you can use them a
couple of times and really benefit was you shrink. I love that i
used to purchase from the Plus side, and now I am firmly seated in

I bet massage does help with weight loss. It moves all of the toxins back into
your blood stream to be removed....that will stimulate soem loss....Lisa is pick

Edie,
yeah, me too.

Re: TOTALLY OT - Disney World

Lisa,
Here's a link to a pretty site about WDW. There's a link to get their
newsletter, and there's also a forum where you can learn tons of info
that will help you out. They also have free travel agent help for you
to use, if you like.
It's good that you are looking at planning NOW because it takes advance
planning of at least 6 months in order to be able to book rooms and
made advanced dining reservations.
Are you planning on staying on site or off site? There's advantages to
both. A word of warning: it's going to be very hot and *HUMID*!!
We're making another trip in Feb. '09 and I've already got our
reservations and am planning our dining options and tours.

Lisa-
My best advice to you is to call early...6 months in advance...to make your
restaraunt reservations. All of the character dining books up quickly. They
open reservations 180 days in advance. You can do dinner in Cinderella's Castle
now. I was so bummed that I didn't call early enough to get reservations that I
cancelled my entire trip last November.

Re: just kind of blah

2007-02-04 11:30:43

Lora,
I'm Blah too. I was supposed to go to Smith Mountain Lake with my
mom today. I am packed, shaved and ready to go. BUT I am not
going. She feels out of sorts today and can't think of riding 5
hours in a car. I have been needing a vacation because I get so
little time with this crumby company that employs me, that I thought
I would try to get in a couple 3 days trips. Now, I don't feel like
doing anything. There are dishes in the sink, floors that need to be
vacuumed (although I shouldn't medically do that), just so many
things that need to be done, but I don't feel like it.
I know when I go back to work and get cleared to do some exercising
this feeling will change. It just seems such a waste not to be
enjoying life or at least accomplishing something.
About your PS...I think the panni without the TT will give you better
results than I have. Trying to fit a smaller top with the same size
bottom, horizontally, gives me gathers all along the horizontal
incision. AND it leaves two poofs at the end of the horizontal
incisions. There is even a little point there where the incision
ends. I am very happy that I now have a fairly flat tummy, but the
poofs on my hips are not attractive. Hopefully as I lose the 20 more
lbs I need to reach my goal, they will diminish. The gathers will
NEWER go away. I wish she had told me more about what to expect
after the PS. I would have still had it, but I might have been
happier with it if I imagined worse. I imagined beauty. Don't
misunderstand....I am still so much better off without that huge
hernia, I just thought there would have been a better outcome.
Also, while waiting for my PS follow up appointment, I noticed a
female with incisions running along both her arms. I asked her
whether she had had batwing removal. She said she had been 320 lbs,
had GBS, and now her insurance was covering her PS. She was in for
her 2 week check up from...inner thigh lift, panni removal, TT,
breast lift and batwing removal. All covered by insurance. She was
sore and couldn't stand to talk too long, AND she didn't look to be
really that thin. I would have thought she was still a little
overweight.

Hi everyone. I am planning a great family vacation w/ my little kids
in August. has anyone gone? This is our 1st time...I am really
excited because I have not been healthy enough until now to walk the
parks (well hopefully my knees will be under control by then!) If
anyone has advice, or knows about special deals or any other
assistance that will make this a life-long HAPPY memory for my 8 and 9
year olds. Thanks everyone.

Oh... and I talked her into photos!! I'll upload them and send them to

get her to pose). The pics are so not fair though... she is so petite
and lost a zillion lbs since her surgery... I look like a giant next to

don't look so HUGE.

Protein Omelette

2007-02-01 22:26:51

this should help with your morning protein
Ginormous Oven-Baked Omelette
PER SERVING (1 huge piece, 1/4th of dish): 140 calories, 3g fat,
387mg sodium, 9g carbs, 1g fiber, 5g sugars, 18g protein -- POINTS®
value 3*
Make it at night, and then have a great protein-packed breakfast
ready in seconds in the morning (just heat 'n eat!)...
Ingredients:
2 cups fat-free liquid egg substitute (like Egg Beaters)
1/2 cup fat-free milk
1/2 cup reduced-fat shredded cheese (any flavor)
1 cup sliced bell peppers (any color)
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1/2 cup sliced tomatoes
1/2 cup sliced onions
1 tbsp. reduced-fat parmesan-style grated topping
3/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/8 tsp. black pepper
Optional topping s: ketchup, salsa, hot sauce
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Into a deep, round casserole dish (about 9 inches wide) sprayed with
nonstick spray, pour egg substitute and milk. Add shredded cheese,
tomatoes, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix well, and then set
aside.
Bring a large pan sprayed with nonstick spray (butter-flavored spray
if you have it) to high heat. Stirring occasionally, cook peppers,
onions, and mushrooms for 2 minutes (just long enough to brown the
outsides). Add veggies to the casserole dish, and mix well.
Place dish in the oven and cook for 30 minutes. Next, carefully
remove the dish from the oven and evenly cover with parm-style
topping. Return it to the oven, and cook for 20 - 25 minutes longer
(until the top has puffed and is firm). Allow to cool slightly before
cutting. Then, if you like, finish off with the optional ingredients
(or any of your fave omelette toppers!).

Re: Calendar Updates

Ally,
I am a blockhead, but I can probably do it. My problem is
remembering to do it. I will need others to remind me, especially in
the beginning.
If I am to be responsible, I need you all to look at the calendar.
If your birthday, surgiversary or surgery date is not on the
calendar, you need to let me know. You can do it either privately,
or in a group post. I read all posts.
Wish me luck. Oh, if anyone really would like to do this, I would
not mind at all. Just let me know. I just didn't want it to fall
through the cracks.
